
Explore the desert wonder of Death Valley in this unique field course. Spend six days in the field studying the lowest and hottest spot on the continent. See marble polished to a mosaic tile in Mosaic Canyon. Travel through geologic time and experience the limestone and volcanic rocks of Titus Canyon. Explore a ghost town and mine. Hike through the colorful sediments of Golden Canyon. Ponder why rocks have left tracks in the playas of Race Track.
No previous geological coursework is required. Participants either camp at the Texas Springs group campground or stay at the Furnace Creek Ranch in Death Valley National Park. The course begins and ends in Bishop, California. Course fee includes campground fees; accommodations at the ranch are extra. (EDP 286112)
Tom Williams, M.S., P.G., an engineering geologist with the North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board, has more than 25 years of professional and teaching experience. He has taught earth sciences at UC Berkeley Extension, Sonoma State University, Dominican University, Diablo Valley College, College of Marin, Napa Valley College, and Mendocino College.
