Wine Studies

(EDP 022434)

The Wine Studies program now offers a professional sequence for continuing education credit.

A whole new range of exciting wine and food courses—for general enthusiasts as well as professionals—provide a structure in which to appreciate, discuss, and insightfully evaluate wine. They enliven your aesthetic vocabulary and deepen your sense of the wine palate.

Core courses (Fundamentals of Wine Studies I: Wines of California and Europe and Fundamentals of Wine Studies II: Sensory Evaluation of Wines and their Components) cover important wines of California and Europe. They also provide foundational understanding of the wine industry and of wine history, and they offer ample opportunity to consider the important cultural underpinnings.

Electives are designed to enhance your wine experience. You may choose to explore regional wines, varied wine-making techniques, and links between wine and cuisine. Electives also cover unique interdisciplinary topics such as the relationship among philosophy, arts, and wine in particular cultures.

Successful completion of the professional sequence requires 70 hours of coursework.

All our instructors are prominent educators in the local wine industry.

For information about the professional sequence, call (510) 643-1283.
