Software Project Management

This five-course professional sequence is designed to equip advanced project
managers with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully manage IT projects.
Project managers in the IT industry need more than the baseline skills applicable across
industries; they also need specific knowledge of the process, needs, and tasks unique to IT
development. These include precise control of metrics, testing, and version updates; unique
approaches to requirements analysis, verification methods, and quality assurance; and detailed
understanding of the software development life cycle.

Who should enroll?
The program is specifically designed for IT developers, principal computer scientists,
project managers, programmer/analysts, general managers, and others involved in managing
software projects, including software engineers.
Registration Procedure
We recommend that you register for the professional sequence before you begin your second course in the program. To register, please (1) complete and submit the
Program Registration Form or (2) print out and complete the form at
www.unex.berkeley.edu/info/cert.php. Mail or fax it as it indicates, and include the nonrefundable registration fee. Professional sequence registration cannot be taken by phone.
Requirements may be updated based on new developments in the field of study; we recommend completing the program in a timely fashion.
Requirements for completion
The sequence consists of five required courses for a total of 135 hours of study. All coursework
must be completed within two years of enrollment in the program. Students must have a
minimum grade point average of 2.5 and no grade lower than C.
No course substitutions or waivers may be granted.
