Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Health Professions Program
As of December 8, 2008, students will no longer be able to enroll in the Pre-Health Professions Program. Students who are able to provide an official transcript verifying that they earned a baccalaureate degree and maintained a GPA equal to or above 3.0 are encouraged to apply to the Post-Baccalaureate Health Professions Program (formerly the Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical Program).
Designed for working professionals, the program features small weekend and evening classes that meet the
prerequisites for a range of professional training programs. We also offer a
range of advising and counseling services to help you complete the application
process for the graduate program of your choice.
The Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Health Professions Program is a formal pathway
for students to gain the academic instruction in the basic sciences
they need to successfully apply to a variety of health profession programs.
Note: The pre-health professions program is not approved for those who hold F-1 visas.
Who Will Benefit
Students who already have a B.S. or B.A. degree in any subject who need
additional science courses to meet admission requirements for health profession
schools. Students who want to increase their chance of admission to health
profession schools by improving their academic credentials can also benefit from
this program.
Comprehensive Advising
In addition to our high-caliber courses, UC Berkeley Extension's post-baccalaureate program provides in-depth advising on
- choosing the best school to meet your career goals
- planning an academic program of study
- completing the application process for nursing schools and other allied health fields
Students who complete 12 units and have maintained at least a 3.0 GPA in the program may also enroll in an optional, non-credit Health Careers Seminar. Students who meet specific criteria may also enroll in an optional, non-credit Health Careers Seminar. This course is designed to help you assess the strength of your credentials and develop strategies for applying to health profession schools. Get help completing and enhancing your applications, reviewing personal statements, conducting mock interviews, and any other issues related to your applications.
Program Requirements
To earn a certificate of completion, students must complete at least 16 units from the academic credit courses listed below and maintain at least a B average. The program must be completed in a maximum of two years.
Credits earned in online sections are not applicable toward the certificate.
Additional courses will be added as they are approved. Courses on the approved list that were taken beginning in summer 2005 can be applied towards the program requirements.
