This professional sequence is designed to be more abstract or theoretical rather than tied to a specific database program. Special consideration is given to cross-platform issues, although specific database programs will be used to perform examples and assignments. The entire database application will be taken into consideration, from designing a database, using SQL to interact with the database, and developing a user interface (UI) (standalone, client-server, web-based).
Successful completion of the certificate program requires a total of 144 hours of instruction. The program consists of 120 hours of instruction from required courses (four required 2-unit (30-hour) courses); and a minimum of 24 hours of instruction from electives (selected from the list of approved electives for this program). Other electives may be added as courses are developed and become available.
Coursework must be completed within two years after enrolling in the first course, with a minimum grade point average of 2.5, and no grade lower than a C.
Substitutions/Waivers: Substitutions and waivers are generally not permitted but will be considered on a case by case (exception) basis.
