Biotechnology Business and Marketing

The San Francisco Bay Area is home to the largest concentration of biotechnology companies in
the United States. This program is designed to help
professionals from a variety of disciplines, within and outside the biotechnology sector, rapidly
develop the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and work effectively in this growing,
highly competitive, and global industry.
Requirements and prerequisites
The program consists of four required courses and 20 hours of electives, for a minimum of 90
hours of classroom study. All coursework must be completed within two years of enrollment in
the program with
a minimum grade point average of 2.5 and no grade lower than a C. Certificates are awarded
upon completion of the course sequence.
Given the scientific foundations of the biotechnology industry, it is important to have some
understanding of the underlying technology. This can be accomplished through previous college
coursework in biology (taken within the past five years) or by taking one of the following courses
early in the program:
Bioscience Essentials for Industry Professionals,
General Biology I,
or another science course approved by the program director. Up to seven hours of one of the
preceding courses may be applied to the elective requirement.
