90-HOUR SERIES

Biotechnology Business and Marketing

(EDP 402263)

The San Francisco Bay Area is home to the largest concentration of biotechnology companies in the United States. This program is designed to help professionals from a variety of disciplines, within and outside the biotechnology sector, rapidly develop the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and work effectively in this growing, highly competitive, and global industry.

Requirements and prerequisites

The program consists of four required courses and 20 hours of electives, for a minimum of 90 hours of classroom study. All coursework must be completed within two years of enrollment in the program with a minimum grade point average of 2.5 and no grade lower than a C. Certificates are awarded upon completion of the course sequence.

Given the scientific foundations of the biotechnology industry, it is important to have some understanding of the underlying technology. This can be accomplished through previous college coursework in biology (taken within the past five years) or by taking one of the following courses early in the program: Bioscience Essentials for Industry Professionals, General Biology I, or another science course approved by the program director. Up to seven hours of one of the preceding courses may be applied to the elective requirement.

Required courses

Drug Development Overview (2 units / 30 hours) (offered future term)
or
The Drug Development Process (28 hours) (offered future term)

Integral Role of Marketing in a Successful Biotechnology Company (1 unit / 15 hours) (offered future term)
