UC Berkeley Extension Summer Registration Now Open
New Programs and Courses Offered in Berkeley, San Francisco and Around the Bay Area
BERKELEY— Scores of new courses are among the hundreds that open for registration today at UC Berkeley Extension. Courses in everything from ecological cities and sustainable leadership to addiction treatment and paralegal criminal law will be held beginning in June in locations around the Bay Area, as well as online.
Among the new offerings this summer, Extension has a dozen new courses for clinical professionals in Behavioral and Health Sciences on such timely topics as club drugs, childhood obesity, and motivational interviewing. In the Humanities, 25 innovative new courses are being offered on topics ranging from literature, history, and philosophy to personal development and wine studies. In Art and Design, courses on ecological cities and creating portfolios are two of their new summer dozen.
This is also the time of year for the Berkeley Summer Engineering Institute, a unique cooperative venture between UC Berkeley’s College of Engineering and UC Berkeley Extension. Engineers of all types come to Berkeley each summer to get the latest on developments in their fields from leading experts. This year, instructors include the vice-chair of the top-ranked civil and environmental engineering department at Cal, the executive vice-chancellor and provost at UC Merced, experts on sustainability and lean construction, and one of the developers of a hot open-source operating system.
To provide more information about our courses and programs, Extension hosts regular free sessions for the public, where instructors and staff answer any questions about the advantages of particular courses and certificate programs. There are nine free information sessions this summer.
UC Berkeley Extension ’s new catalog of courses is online now at www.unex.berkeley.edu. Print versions are available at Extension's regional centers, or by request from 1-888-UC-SMART (888-827-6278). Courses start every week, year-round.
Founded in 1891, UC Berkeley Extension is the continuing education branch of the University of California Berkeley. Today, Extension offers 2,000 courses each year, including online courses, along with more than 30 certificate programs and customized contract training. Free and low-cost public programs are also frequently offered as a community service.
