UC Berkeley Extension Spring Registration Now Open
New Programs and Courses Offered in Berkeley, San Francisco and Around the Bay Area
BERKELEY — Registration is now open for UC Berkeley Extension's courses beginning in January, continuing a 114-year-old tradition. More than 700 courses—including more than 60 never before offered—will be held in locations around the Bay Area, as well as online.
Among the new offerings, Extension is debuting a certificate program in business management, as well as professional sequences in Sustainable Design and Sustainable Environmental Design and Stwewardship. Courses in everything from business and bioinformatics to writing and wireless communications are available, with new courses in biotechnology, business, computers, engineering, psychology, languages, art, and humanities.
UC Berkeley Extension’s spring catalog is now on the Web at www.unex.berkeley.edu, and the print version will be available at Extension's regional centers the first week of December, or by request from 1-888-UC-SMART (888-827-6278). Many courses begin in early January, with new ones starting every week, year-round.
Extension hosts eighteen free career nights and information sessions this term. Instructors and staff will be available to answer any questions about the advantages of particular courses and certificate programs at these events, and there is never any cost or obligation to enroll.
Free lectures and public events are another way Extension fulfills its mission to bring UC Berkeley educational excellence to the community. New for this spring is a noon lecture series in San Francisco at the South of Market Center, adjacent to Yerba Buena Gardens and SFMOMA. Other free lectures, symposia and even a new film series on sustainability issues offer many opportunities for enrichment. A highlight is the annual symposium on the American Presidency, offered in conjunction with UC Berkeley's Institute of Governmental Studies.
Founded in 1891, UC Berkeley Extension is the continuing education branch of the University of California Berkeley. Today, Extension offers 2,000 courses each year, including online courses, along with more than 30 certificate programs and customized contract training. Free and low-cost public programs are also frequently offered as a community service.
UC Berkeley Extension press releases are online at www.unex.berkeley.edu/news.
