Panel Dissects Presidency in 25th Annual Assessment

Free Symposium from UC Berkeley Extension and the Center on Politics

BERKELEY— On Monday, April 10, four renowned political commentators will assess how President George W. Bush has handled recent challenges and opportunities, from Hurricane Katrina and mounting casualties in Iraq to two Supreme Court nominations that will shape the country for decades to come. With mid-term elections around the corner that will leave him a lame duck and a reshuffling of his inner circle in response to criticism from within his party, early signs of the struggle for succession are surfacing.

This annual panel discussion, presented by UC Berkeley Extension and the UC Berkeley Center on Politics, is an opportunity to hear from seasoned political experts what this all means for a President who has worked hard to strengthen the political power of the office in relation to Congress and the courts.

WHO: Michael Kinsley, founder of Slate.com and columnist, Washington Post; Michael Barone, senior writer, U.S. News and World Report, and author of Hard America, Soft America; Nelson W. Polsby, Heller Professor of Political Science, University of California, Berkeley, and author of Presidential Elections;
Janet Hook, staff writer, Washington, D.C. bureau, Los Angeles Times

WHAT: Annual panel discussion on the state of the American Presidency

WHEN: Monday, April 10, 6 pm

WHERE: 155 Dwinelle Hall, UC Berkeley Campus, Berkeley
