How to Apply
The Evening Certificate Program in Interior Design and Interior Architecture equips you to meet the highest standards of the profession. The San Francisco Bay Area is one of the acknowledged centers of design in North America and around the world. The program provides you with a conceptual design background as well as practical skills, offering you an unparalleled hands-on experience.
All courses are taught by prominent, practicing design professionals, and the program is accredited by the Foundation for Interior Design Education Research (FIDER). The
San Francisco Chronicle has called this certificate program a "serious program for serious students," underscoring the rigorous nature of the courses.

The Curriculum
The standard curriculum consists of a total of 77 units (1,155 hours of instruction), including 28 courses plus one elective. Courses are offered in four phases and must be taken in sequence. For complete course descriptions, please see the UC Berkeley Extension

Prerequisites
- Bachelor's degree in any field.
- Experience in interior design, architecture, art, art history, or other related disciplines is helpful but not required. It is sometimes possible to substitute or waive courses based on previous coursework in related subjects. Academic transcripts and a portfolio review are required for transfers and waivers.

Completing Your Program
The minimum time required to complete an Evening Certificate Program in Interior Design and Interior Architecture is three years, though your individual program may take longer due to the fact that not all courses are offered each term, some courses may be canceled, and some courses may fill before you register. You may begin the program in any term.
