Your housing choice depends on your interests, preferences, and budget.
Most evening certificate students prefer to rent a private apartment or a private room in an apartment or home. This gives you independence, but it also means you will have to supply many of your own household items.
Some students prefer to stay in a dormitory. This option allows you to meet students of different ages and backgrounds, but it may also provide many distractions and so is not recommended for older students.
Whatever your choice, you should be aware that the "estimated minimum expenses" shown on the enrollment application are amounts that can easily be exceeded, given the wide range of housing options available in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Overseas Evening Certificate Program applicants who wish to live in Berkeley are encouraged to prearrange housing by submitting the housing application.
Although many evening certificate courses take place in San Francisco, we are not able to prearrange your housing there. We do, however, have referral information that we’ll be glad to share with you.
Whichever option you choose, our International Student Services office is happy to help.
