Refunds
If you enroll in a course and then cannot attend, you may request a refund. Any refund is subject to a $30 nonrefundable processing fee. For some courses, special refund processing fees apply.
- Courses with fewer than six meetings: You must make your request no later than one business day prior to the first meeting.
- Courses with six or more meetings: You must make your request no later than one business day prior to the second meeting.
- Online courses: Refund requests for transfers or refunds for online courses must be received by our business office within 14 calendar days of your course enrollment date. (For fixed-date courses, requests must be received within the first seven calendar days of the course.) Note: Effective September 1, 2008, transfer and refund requests for self-paced and fixed-date courses must be received within seven calendar days of your enrollment date. Any refund is subject to a $30 nonrefundable processing fee per course unless stated otherwise.
For certain courses, special refund policies apply. See individual course descriptions. For UC Berkeley-equivalent (XB) courses, additional
deadlines apply.
If it is necessary for UC Berkeley Extension to cancel a course, the full course fee will be refunded. We do not refund travel or accommodation costs or any expense other than the fullcourse fee in the event of course cancellation.
Not receiving your enrollment confirmation before the course begins is not justification for seeking a refund.
To Request a Refund
You can request a refund in person at any of our Extension centers or by calling (510) 642-4111. You may also write to the Registrar's Office, UC Berkeley Extension, 1995 University Ave., Suite 110, Berkeley, CA 94704-7000, or fax your request to (510) 642-0374. You can also send an e-mail request to
refund@unex.berkeley.edu. Be sure to include your name, the name and EDP number of your course, the reason for requesting a refund, and your phone number in case of questions. Failure to include all necessary information may delay processing.
Refund Requests After the Deadline
Refund requests after the normal deadline must be submitted
in writing detailing the reason for the request. Exceptions to the refund policy are handled on a case-by-case basis and
only granted when emergency or extenuating circumstances exist. The refund, if approved, will be prorated from the date of request. Please address your request to the
Refund Appeals Committee at the address listed above. The decision of the Refund Appeals Committee is final.
If you have any questions regarding the refund policy, please call (510) 642-4111.
Cancellation of Courses
We cancel courses only when absolutely necessary, but we must reserve the right to do so, as well as to reschedule courses and change instructors. UC Berkeley Extension receives no state or University funding and is self-supporting from course fees. If your course is canceled, you may either request a transfer to another course or you will automatically receive a full refund.
