Who May Enroll
UC Berkeley Extension courses are open to the general public. Unless otherwise
indicated, any
interested adult may enroll.
Please let us know at your time of enrollment if you require ADA
accommodation. See disabled student services for more information.
Any
course prerequisites are listed in the course descriptions.
Note to students enrolling in UC Berkeley-equivalent (XB) courses: Regulations and deadlines for XB courses including courses through concurrent enrollment have changed as of fall 2005. Click here for further information and
deadlines for this term.

Enrolling in an Online Course
For courses with published start and end dates, you must enroll prior to the start date. These courses must be completed within the specific dates posted in the course section information.
Many online courses are self-paced, which means you may enroll at any time and progress at your own pace, keeping in mind that you have six months (including any final exam or project) to complete the course. Plan on devoting a minimum of one month of study for each semester unit of the course. Submit no more than one assignment per week to your instructor, and wait until this assignment has been returned to you before submitting the next one.
If the course you wish to take is marked temporarily closed, you can be automatically notified when enrollment reopens. To initiate this, click on the “notify me” button in the course section block, provide your contact information, and you will be notified by e-mail when the course becomes available again.
Most courses conclude with a proctored final examination, which may be taken at
any number of
sites, nationally or internationally, provided the location and proctor have been certified by UC
Berkeley Extension.
Special requirements apply to UC Berkeley-equivalent (XB) courses.
Please note: As a condition of your enrollment and to ensure your successful
completion of an
online course, our courses require your participation in chat rooms and message boards specific
to the course. The e-mail address and/or online identity you use when entering chats, or as you
post on message boards, will be visible to all other participants. By enrolling in an Extension
online course, you authorize the disclosure of your e-mail address and/or online identity for this
purpose.
Enrolling at the First Class Meeting
If you have not enrolled before the date of the first class meeting and there is still
space available
in the class, you may enroll before class begins if the class is located at an Extension center. For
classes at other locations, please use the contact information listed below the subject heading in
the catalog.
If the minimum enrollment is not reached, courses may be canceled before the first
meeting. For
courses with more than five meetings, you may attend the first meeting without enrolling in
advance to see if the course meets your needs. However, if the course has an enrollment limit, it
may be filled and you will not be permitted to attend or enroll.
For course status information, including availability of space, call (510) 642-4111.
Note: We cannot guarantee that course materials, texts, or additional
classroom space will be
immediately available for students who do not enroll in advance.
Enrolling After the First Meeting
You may enroll on a space-available basis at the second meeting if your course has
more than
five meetings. After the second meeting, you may enroll only with authorization from the UC
Berkeley Extension representative responsible for the course. To contact the representative,
please refer to the telephone number and e-mail address under the course subject headings.
