The Fall Program for Freshmen (FPF) is a part of UC Berkeley Extension, the continuing education branch of the University of California, Berkeley. FPF was created to meet the needs of freshmen undergraduate students who have been admitted to UC Berkeley (Cal) for the spring semester.
FPF offers a fall semester curriculum of UC Berkeley-approved courses that meet UC graduation requirements and are taught by instructors approved by the UC Berkeley Academic Senate. Since 1983, FPF has prepared more than 10,000 Cal students for success. Our students include undergraduates admitted to Cal's College of Letters and Science and the College of Engineering.
Accepting just 650 students for fall 2008, FPF provides a small, supportive academic environment that is integrated with campus life. Our classrooms are located just four blocks from the main campus, and all our reading and composition courses are taught on campus, so students have plenty of opportunities to familiarize themselves with the Cal environment.
FPF also offers students access to many of the same health and student services, which contributes to a seamless transition from fall semester to spring.
Space in our program is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Our program fills very quickly so we encourage you to reserve a spot early; it costs $100 to reserve your space. You can reserve your spot in FPF by enrolling now, and then wait until the May 1 Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) deadline to make your final decision about attending Cal in the spring and FPF in the fall.

FPF exceeded my expectations--in its proximity to campus and the attention I received from professors.
