The Certificate Program in Project Management provides a well-respected curriculum for professionals currently working as project managers or aspiring to take on project management responsibilities. In this highly interactive program, you learn multiple aspects of effective project management so you can plan and control projects and working effectively with project teams to go forward with confidence, improve performance, provide leadership, and deliver projects on time and on budget.
Project Management Institute®
Our project management courses are aligned with the most current industry standard developed by the Project Management Institute (PMI®) and utilize PMI's
Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®, 4th edition). We are a PMI registered education provider so our project management courses apply toward PMI professional development units (provider #1173).
Requirements
The curriculum consists of six required courses,
for a total of 14 semester units and 210 hours of instruction.

Further study
We strongly suggest you take additional courses in project management, communication, and
leadership to complement the required curriculum. You may take these courses
for semester units or continuing education units, or on a pass/fail basis. These classes are not required for the certificate.

Registration procedure
We recommend that you register for the certificate program before you begin your third course in the program. To register, please (1) complete and submit the
Program Registration Form or (2) print out and complete the form at
www.unex.berkeley.edu/cert/certproginfo.html. Mail or fax it as it indicates, and include the nonrefundable registration fee. Certificate registration cannot be taken by phone.
Requirements may be updated based on new developments in the field of study; we recommend completing the program in a timely fashion.
Grading policy
All courses must be taken for a letter grade. A grade point average of 2.5 is required in order to
earn the certificate, and each course must be completed with a grade of C or better. If you
maintain a 3.5 grade point average you will be awarded a Certificate with Distinction.
Time to complete the program
You must complete the course requirements for the certificate within five years of completing your first course, usually Project Management X470. Please
notify us via e-mail when you receive your final grade report. After verifying completion of all
coursework and requirements, we will award
your certificate.
Substitution of courses
Certificate candidates may substitute up to two courses taken at another institution for certificate
requirements. The substituted course(s) must be equivalent
in subject matter and academic credit and must
be offered by an accredited college or university.
The substituted course(s) must have been taken during the past five years with a grade of B or better and must be supported by an official transcript.
Substitutions must be approved in writing by UC Berkeley Extension; e-mail the program office for guidelines.
