Management
(EDP 302695)
Critical thinking ability, communication skills, and versatility are
taking their place alongside technical or quantitative knowledge as the
managerial assets valued most by today's organizations.
UC Berkeley Extension's Certificate in Management reflects this new reality. Its curriculum
emphasizes the human factors and leadership components of management—
the qualitative aspects of managing—rather than the strictly
analytical approaches and quantitative subjects that most programs teach.
Real-world management decisions take into account a wide range of
factors—customer service, market positioning, operational logistics, social
responsibility, public relations, and much more—that reflect the multidimensional
complexity of running a business. Managers succeed not only
through quantitative analysis but also by projecting leadership strength,
clearly communicating challenging yet achievable goals, and modeling
a vibrant and productive corporate culture. The best managers, in short,
tend to draw from the widest array of capabilities.
The Certificate Program in Management offers you the opportunity to
become that kind of manager through a sequence of integrated courses.
Note: You may take as many individual courses as you wish without
enrolling in the full certificate program.
Program Benefits
You gain the skills in effective communication, productive uses of authority,
ethical business practices, and general management that add up to the wellrounded
leadership that today's employers seek. The program is designed to help you
- take on higher-level job responsibilities
- qualify for managerial assignments
- improve current managerial performance
- gain grounding in management essentials
- develop a big-picture view of management
- communicate more effectively
Who Will Benefit
The program is intended for career builders who seek professional advancement
and commensurate higher compensation. Current supervisors, presupervisors,
beginning-level managers, and aspiring managers who are
already in their chosen industry but not yet in their desired position or
salary level will add to their qualifications for advancement. The program
will also benefit career changers.
