The field of construction management includes light (residential and small office buildings) and
heavy
(large office buildings and facilities, infrastructures) projects. A construction manager must be in
charge
of the overall planning and control of a project; this demands a command of many skills. Our
certificate
program is designed to provide you with knowledge of the regulatory, insurance, management,
safety,
estimating, and environmental aspects of the construction management field.

curriculum.
Prerequisites for Admission
There are no prerequisites for the Certificate in Construction Management,
but a bachelor's degree is recommended.
Registration Procedure
Courses start throughout the year. You may begin the certificate in any term. We recommend that you register for the certificate program before beginning the third course in the program.
To register for the program, please (1) complete and submit an
Program Registration Form online or (2) print out and complete the form available at
www.unex.berkeley.edu/info/cert.php. Mail or fax it as the form indicates, and include the nonrefundable application fee. Certificate registration cannot be taken by phone.
Requirements may be updated based on new developments in the field of study; we recommend completing the program in a timely fashion.
Completing the Program
You are expected to complete the course requirements for the certificate
within five years of taking the first course. You must notify us in writing
when you have received the final grade report for your last course. After
verifying successful completion of all coursework and requirements,
Extension awards your certificate.
Grading Policy
All courses must be taken for a letter grade. A grade point average of 3.0 is
required in order to earn the certificate, and each course must be completed
with a grade of C or better. If you maintain a 3.5 grade point average or
higher you will be awarded a Certificate with Distinction.
Substitution of Courses
Students may transfer up to two courses from another accredited university,
subject to approval by the program director. Substitutions must be approved
in writing by UC Berkeley Extension. Contact the program office for
