Writing Short Fiction from Life Experience
X51 (2 semester units in English)
Great writers often use their personal lives as a reservoir to draw upon as they create enduring stories. In this course for writers at all levels, you see how several contemporary and classic authors shaped their own experiences into memorable works of fiction. By experimenting with different techniques and exercises, you learn how to isolate dramatic moments from your past, how to resurrect characters you have known, and how to structure the stories inherent in your own life. Manuscripts are critiqued and discussed by the instructor and fellow participants.
