Treating Adult Survivors of Abuse and Trauma
(0.7 ceu)
7 hours CE credit: BRN, LCSW/MFT, and psychologists
There are distinct stages that need to be identified and understood in the treatment of the adult survivor of childhood abuse and trauma. The healing process follows a course of growth similar to normal childhood development.
This workshop discusses how the stages of healing reenact the stages of early childhood development and provide an opportunity to rework the earlier developmental stages that have been blocked or negatively impacted due to the trauma of the abuse. It also reviews the impact of working with issues of trauma for the individual therapist.
Secondary traumatization and self-care are discussed. The instructor uses lecture, discussion, and case material. This workshop is strongly recommended for clinicians currently treating clients with histories of trauma.
