Your skill in crafting letters, e-mails, memos, and reports determines how effectively you deliver your message to, or on behalf of, your organization. In this course, you refresh and refine your business writing skills by learning to edit your writing, identify your grammar and punctuation problems, and organize your ideas for clarity. You review the basics of composing effective business letters, memos, and reports, as well as how to find the style and format that fits your subject and audience.

MARGARET STEEN, M.J., is a Bay Area freelance writer and editor with more than 10 years of experience. Her work has been published in the Christian Science Monitor, Business 2.0, American Journalism Review, Stanford Business, and Network World and at www.HotJobs.com. She has also written and edited reports for large corporations, nonprofits, and universities. She has worked as a reporter for the San Jose Mercury News and as a copyeditor and editor for InfoWorld, a computer industry trade publication. She has taught courses on copyediting, writing skills, and business writing for UC Berkeley Extension and has taught staff development workshops on business writing. She received a bachelor's degree in comparative literature from Carleton College and a master's degree in journalism from the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.
