Teaching Vocational Students with Special Needs (Level II)
X366.5 (2 semester units in Education)
This course is designed to prepare you to teach students with individual differences in ethnicity, culture, language, gender, age, education, socioeconomic level, and handicapping conditions. You discuss the role of vocational programs in educating diverse student populations and the importance of developing and appreciation for and sensitivity to the heritage, values, and goals of each student. Instructional strategies, activities, and materials that accommodate individual differences are presented. Other topics include fostering student respect for diversity and teaching students whose primary language is other than English.
Prerequisite: All Level I courses in the Vocational Education Teaching Credential Program.

MARY ANNE KEGELMEYER has three graduate degrees in education, and has worked in the field for more than 14 years as a teacher, mentor, and administrator. She has taught individuals who represent the full range of disability categories from mild learning issues to severe retardation. She is currently CEO of an educational and charitable nonprofit that she founded.
