UNIX/Linux System Administration II: Networking

X420.8 (2 semester units in EECS)

(Combines UNIX Network Programming, UNIX TCP/IP Architecture, and Internetworking with TCP/IP)

A required course in the Certificate Program in UNIX/Linux System Administration

This course follows UNIX/Linux System Administration I: The Essentials, X422.8. It introduces the TCP/IP Protocol suite and examines the different layers and protocols within the protocol suite. Both theory and application are covered in depth. Students experience hands-on UNIX/Linux network configuration and troubleshooting tools. Network programming concepts are introduced and reinforced through programming exercises. Finally, new and emerging standards as well as wide-area networking concepts are presented. This course comprises the former UNIX Network Programming X420.8, UNIX TCP/IP Architecture X439.7, and Internetworking with TCP/IP X414.4.

Prerequisites: UNIX/Linux System Fundamentals X426.1A; UNIX/Linux System Administration Programming: Shell, C, and Perl X426.1B; and UNIX/Linux System Administration I X422.8.
