Principles of Business Law
X410.1 (2 semester units in Business Administration)
People who want to be successful in business or real estate need to know how to deal with legal issues and when to refer questions to an attorney. This course is about how to identify the issues and know when you have a legal problemand if so, what it is. California law is emphasized in a survey of the law and the jurisdiction of, and procedure under, our court system. The course also covers basic principles of the laws of contracts, agency, partnership, corporations, and limited liability companies, as well as employment and intellectual property.

MARWA ELZANKALY, J.D., is a partner at McManis Faulkner & Morgan, a litigation firm in San Jose. She specializes in commercial and general civil litigation, including anti-trust, trademark, and copyright disputes, trade-secrets litigation, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty actions, unfair competition actions, malicious prosecution, and employment disputes. She practices in both state and federal courts and has brought and defended complex class-action cases. She also handles appeals and writ petitions before the 6th District and 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Her clients have included Intel Corporation, Jasmine Networks, Inc., Feld Entertainment, Inc., dba Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Cadence Design Systems, DecisionOne Corp., eDiets.com, and Silicon Turnkey Solutions. She is the former president of the Bay Area Association of Muslim Lawyers, and recipient of the California State Bar President's Pro Bono Services Award in 2006. She graduated in 1996 from UC Riverside with a bachelor of science in business administration, and in 1999 from Santa Clara University School of Law with a juris doctorate degree.
