Introduction to Microsoft SQL Server 2005
X422 (2 semester units in EECS)
Microsoft SQL Server is a scalable, high-performance relational database management system designed for distributed client/server computing. This course provides an in-depth introduction to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 features and related utility tools.
Topics include Microsoft SQL Server architecture; system and user databases, schemas, tables, and other database objects; TRANSACT-SQL, used to explain features like joins, subqueries, and aggregate functions; stored procedures and triggers; managing data integrity using constraints and rules; tools for performance tuning, data transfer, backup, and restore; and a brief overview of SQL-DMO, ODBC, DB Library, and replication features.
Prerequisite: This course is designed for analysts, developers, and administrators who need an in-depth understanding of Microsoft SQL Server, and those who need an introduction to relational database concepts using a commercial RDBMS product. Prior exposure to relational database management systems or a course in relational database management systems is recommended.
