Fiction Writing Basics

X54 (1 semester unit in English)

Stories that satisfy writers and readers are an artful weaving of fiction's essential elements: character development, plot, setting, conflict and suspense, and narrative voice. This course is a series of six workshops designed to help you build your skills in these fundamental areas. Each session focuses in depth on one topic through class discussion, selected readings, and writing exercises presented in a supportive atmosphere. You explore how each element contributes to the success of a story and gain techniques that help you create strong and compelling work. Enrollment is limited.
