Preconstruction Estimating: From Design Development Stage to the Final Bid Process
X451 (2 semester units in Civ. & Env. Eng.)
A requirement in the Certificate Program in Construction ManagementThis course has been designed to provide students and practitioners with a practical, in-depth introduction and orientation to this challenging subject and to further acquaint them with all aspects of construction estimating techniques during preconstruction services from design development to the final bid process. The teaching method utilized focuses on applied and proven techniques and the best methods of delivery in the construction and construction management industry.
Having a successful project and a realistic budget in any construction project depends upon the architect, engineer, general contractor, and owner working together in a collaborative environment from the onset of design development through the final bid process rather than in the more adversarial relationship typically experienced in a traditional design, bid, and build process.
In this course, you work in groups on practical projects, working on case studies, performing and simulating the step-by-step approaches and techniques, and applying current construction contract delivery methods such as Construction Manager at Risk (CM/GC) and Design Build in a traditional design, bid, and build scenario.
This course is designed for project estimators, project engineers, project managers, owner's representatives, facility managers, design professionals, project superintendents, and project executives who are involved with or want to be involved with the construction estimating aspects of a project during preconstruction services.
