Counseling Techniques for Educators

Emphasis in this course is on becoming familiar with counseling approaches that can be used by counselors, teachers, administrators, and others in K-12 and university settings. Participants learn and practice the basic tenets of Carkhuff's Human Resource Development (HRD) Model in order to gain competence in the application of basic counseling skills.

SUZY THOMAS, Ph.D., M.A., PPS, is an assistant professor in the School of Education at Saint Mary's College and teaches part time at UC Berkeley. She has been a middle and secondary school counselor, consultant, and teacher. She has also given presentations and workshops at professional conferences and local colleges and universities on topics including counseling gay and lesbian youth, school safety, and child abuse.Revised class schedule in red.
