Business Basics for Graphic Designers
X493 (1 semester unit in Design)
An understanding of the graphic design marketplace is essential for anyone working--or planning to work--in the field. This course prepares students for taking on contracts, starting their own design firms, or looking for full-time work in the design world. The course covers a range of business challenges that designers face, from legal hurdles to what to charge for a logo. Real-world projects are presented as case studies, and students practice creating contracts, schedules, and project bids.
Prerequisite: Familiarity with the language and tools of graphic design. Although this course is not production-oriented, there are assignments requiring the use of a computer.
