This course introduces you to the major philosophical concerns and concepts in Western thought, beginning with early texts in which philosophy first becomes distinguishable from myth and concluding with the philosophical debates of medieval Christianity. You explore philosophical questions relating to politics, metaphysics, natural science, logic, ethics, and aesthetics. The philosophers covered include Plato, Aristotle, St. Augustine, and St. Thomas Aquinas.

JOSEPH MICHAEL FEDEL, M.A., is a philosophy lecturer at Washtenaw Community College, Mich. He pursued the big questions in life as a student in the philosophy department at Cal State East Bay. During that time, his focus shifted from philosophy to philosophy of religion, and he helped establish the option in religious studies and the minor in religious studies in his Cal State philosophy department.
