Seeing Art
X410 (2 semester units in Art History)
Pleasure, curiosity, and creativity draw viewers into exhibitions. Once engaged, they often find that the more they understand about materials, visual language, and context, the more rewarding the experience becomes.
They also find that the discovery process goes inward as well as outward--learning to look at art deeply involves developing one's own taste and self-understanding. You'll refine that ability in this course through many gallery visits and discussions of individual works. Enjoying a wide variety of art, from photography, painting, and sculpture to conceptual art and work in new media, you have opportunities to sharpen your understanding of all kinds of art as well as of the creative process and its place in our culture.
