Principles of Publication Design

X405 (2 semester units in Design)

This course emphasizes typography and page composition, including grid layout and the principles of contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity. Through lectures, hands-on projects, and classroom critiques, you learn the process used in designing books, brochures, magazines, periodicals, and collateral pieces. The course also covers writing design specifications and copy-fitting. Guest speakers from the local design community give presentations of their work. Students must have access to Quark or InDesign.
