Field Experience in Chemical Dependency
X109 (2 semester units in Public Health)
This field-study course provides an opportunity for candidates completing the Certificate Program in Alcohol and Drug Abuse Studies to apply what they have learned in an agency setting. Participants select a field placement in an agency of their choice and spend a total of 36 hours at the placement, completing a project or developing a product (noncounseling in nature) related to the agency's mission.
In addition to the project, participants complete a number of assignments designed to help them plan future employment and develop their ability to analyze and understand organizations and their impact on delivery of client services. The 30-hour classroom portion of the course provides a supportive setting for participants to discuss, analyze, and solve problems arising from their field experience and project.
Enrollment is limited to 15.Prerequisite: Completion of all Level I and II courses in the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Studies program or consent of instructor.
