Introduction to Macroeconomics
X3 (3 semester units in Economics)
This course introduces basic concepts and tools used in macroeconomic analysis: the theory, measurement, and determination of national income; business cycles; the multiplier; fiscal policy, budget deficits, and the national debt; aggregate supply and aggregate demand; money, banking, and monetary policy; exchange rates and balance of payments accounts; and stabilization policy for unemployment and inflation. Courses X2 and X3 may be taken concurrently; neither is prerequisite to the other.

LARRY O'CONNELL, M.A., M.S., M.B.A., has more than 25 years of experience in business, government, and nonprofit organizations. In addition to his work as the project manager for major infrastructure projects, including a nuclear power plant, he has prepared multi-million-dollar capital and operating budgets for long-range projects and allocated monetary resources in the corporate sector and governmental sectors. He serves on several nonprofit boards and provides literacy training courses to underserved high-school students in concert with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He has taught twenty-plus years at the university level and has master's degrees in economics, management and technology. Currently he is pursuing doctoral studies.
