Graphic Design Studio I
X30 (3 semester units in Design)
Graphic design encompasses many specialties, from advertising to Web design, illustration to packaging. Through a series of challenging foundation projects, this course provides an introduction to the basic principles of graphic design in all of these areas. Regular critiques help students develop their presentation skills and their understanding of what makes a design successful.
Design-related skills, portfolio requirements, and work opportunities are also discussed. Guest lecturers give presentations on their design specialties, providing a firsthand look at the imagination and skills applied in graphic design. This course is essential for those interested in entering the field and for students beginning the
Professional Sequence in Graphic Design.

BETH COHEN, B.F.A., has many years of experience working as a print-production and project manager on large-scale projects at various Bay Area agencies. Her goal is to impart the knowledge, tools, and skills needed to explore the design arena and understand the applications in the working world.
