Fundamentals of Wine Studies I: Wines of California and Europe
(2.4 ceu)
This serves as one of two introductory and essential courses in wine studies. In this course, you explore the characteristics of different wine types, the methods of production and aging, and the history of California's wine industry.
You learn tasting techniques and the proper care and serving of wine. Tastings of representative California, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese wines follow the lectures, with emphasis on comparing California and European wines of similar types. Course fee includes all wines to be tasted in the course.
Note: Please bring six glasses to each session.

RAY JOHNSON, B.A., is one of California's most admired wine educators and serves as
the assistant director of the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. The
author of The Good Life Guide to Enjoying Wine, Johnson also teaches in the
Wine Studies Program at Santa Rosa Junior College. He earned his
master's in wine business from the University of Adelaide in South
Australia. His work on regional branding has been published in the
International Journal of Wine Business Research and Vineyard & Winery
