Gardens, Parks, and Urban Open Spaces II
X418 (3 semester units in Landscape Architecture)
The interrelationship between landscape architecture, architecture, and urban design is the focus of this course. Slide-illustrated lectures in this second part of the course survey the built environment from the beginnings of the profession of landscape architecture in the nineteenth century English social reform movement to the present. Emphasis is on the evolution and growth of the profession of landscape architecture. Course includes a self-driven trip to Sonoma County, 2-4 p.m. on May 3.
Prerequisite: Gardens, Parks, and Urban Open Spaces I X416.

JAMES T. CHAPPELL, B.Arch., M.C.P., named Honored Instructor in 2005, is president of San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association (SPUR). He has lectured on and taught landscape architecture, architecture, and urban design for more than 35 years.
