Studio L3: Advanced Landscape Architectural Design
X408 (6 semester units in Landscape Architecture)
This course provides instruction and guidance in advanced landform and planting design, design detailing, preparation of working drawings, and presentation graphics. The focus of this intensive studio is on discovering design solutions at the design development phase of the project sequence. You work on projects of a variety of scales.
Lectures address the impact of budgets, available materials and technology, and construction industry norms on detailed and integrated design decisions. Cost estimating, specification writing, and supervision practices are also introduced.
Design problems are assigned and presented to a jury of professional practitioners for review and criticism. The shared studio experience is critical to the learning process. In-class studio work is required for completion credit. Students who have not successfully completed all of the prerequisites will not be admitted to the course.
Prerequisites: All courses leading up to and including Studio L2: Project Planning and Design X406; Construction Technology I X404 and II X405; and Social Factors in Environmental Design X402.
