In this practical introduction to the field, you learn traditional and innovative classroom techniques for teaching listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills to speakers of English as a second language. Discussions center on the role of the teacher, the needs of the learner, and the development of lesson plans, including the selection and uses of texts and other materials.

CAROL LETHABY, M.A. in TESOL, has been in the field of English language teaching as a teacher, teacher educator, consultant, and materials writer since 1986. She has lived and worked in the United Kingdom, Austria, France, Greece, and Mexico. She is involved in both local and distance teacher education projects, and is coauthoring a textbook series for adult ESL learners.
