The values, customs, mores, and communication styles of cultural groups are examined in this course, with emphasis on their implications for teaching. You learn how to interpret the communicative behavior of a student and to explain how conversational behavior differs from culture to culture.

STEVEN L. WEST, Ph.D., educational consultant, was a Fulbright scholar to Turkey and also taught Turkish and the cultural history of the Turks at UCLA and the University of Pennsylvania. He has been giving programs in ESL teacher training and international communication and diversity around the world since 1980.
