Studio L2: Project Planning and Design
X406 (4 semester units in Landscape Architecture)
Participants in this intensive studio course build on previously acquired knowledge and begin to apply it to site planning and design exercises and problems. The focus is on discovering design solutions at the preliminary design phase of the project sequence, using projects at a variety of scales.
Classes deal with circulation systems, basic design, functional analyses, inventory, site analyses, and design methods and strategies. Graphic and verbal communication skills are further developed in order to comprehend more complex and fundamental interrelationships affecting a design solution.
At the first class meeting, students will be required to submit a total of five examples of work showing drafting skills to the instructor. These examples should be on sheets no larger than 11" x 17" (reductions of larger work are acceptable), and each should be labeled with name and phone number. Students who do not exhibit adequate drafting skills and who do not have the prerequisites will not be admitted to the course.
