X400.5 (2 semester units in Art History)
Ancient Aegean art has profoundly influenced subsequent Western art and culture. Lectures and discussions cover frescoes, sculpture, architecture, ceramics, metalwork, and jewelry from early Minoan culture, the Mycenaean world, and the Classical and Hellenistic periods of ancient Greece. The origins of Western architecture from the palaces of Knossos to the development of the Greek temple and current ideas concerning Goddess religions and various Greek myths are also discussed.
