Forensic Counseling: Treating Addictions among Parolees and Those in Prison

In this workshop you review the basic psychotherapies and their applications to a forensic population. You learn an eclectic, yet focused approach to counseling incarcerated and post-release populations with addiction problems, as well as those who are being offered treatment under Proposition 36. You also address gang presence in jail, the ethics of counseling an inmate, and how to deal with transference and countertransference issues.

TONY SCUDERI, Psy.D, D.Min., CACD, CCS, is a clinical psychologist for San Quentin State Prison and has taught at the college level for many years. He also holds a doctoral degree in ministry, specializing in marriage and family therapy, and is a godan (fifth-degree black belt) in judo.
