Digital Visualization Tools for Sustainable Design
X411.8 (1 semester unit in Architecture)
This is a beginner-to-intermediate level computer graphics course on previsualization and concept-development of architectural projects. It focuses on two industry-standard applications–a paint program and a 3-D program–and explores how the two can be integrated to create accurate and emotionally-engaging depictions of sustainable projects. Learning objectives include:
- basic-to-intermediate level Adobe Photoshop skills for architectural and urban design illustration
- basic-to-advanced level Google Sketchup skills for architectural and urban design illustration
- techniques for digital photography, and use of, for photo-simulation
- techniques for integrating Sketchup models with Photoshop scenes

DAVID VASQUEZ, Ed.D, is a computer graphics specialist and urban design visualization consultant for transit agencies, urban designers, and major engineering firms in Northern California. His projects include everything from bike paths in mountain towns to multibillion-dollar train systems including California High Speed Rail. Vasquez is co-founder of Public Vision Research, LLC, and is currently a faculty member at the San Jose State University Department of Urban & Regional Planning.
