The Role of the Designer in a Sustainable World
X411.7 (2 semester units in Architecture)
Throughout the last two centuries, designers have pioneered new modes of production that sparked massive sociocultural change. How can today's designers lead the sustainability revolution? With case studies and visiting practitioners, we'll examine the political and economic obstacles to implementing cradle-to-cradle production and articulate a vision for social responsibility in the design profession. We'll also examine how sustainability is influencing the institutions and practices of contemporary design, focusing on leadership opportunities available to students.
