Histology
X123 (3 semester units in Molecular and Cell Biology)
The study of histology focuses on understanding the microanatomy of the human body. This course emphasizes the characteristics of the basic tissue types that form organ systems, the ways tissues combine to form organs, and the ways tissues work together to perform the functions of each system. Special attention is placed on the microstructure of cells and organelles that are representative of different tissues and organs. Microscopy, microtechnique, and histological stains are also studied. This course is intended for pre-health professional students and others interested in the human body at the microscopic level. Topics studied are especially relevant for students who have completed courses in general human anatomy and human physiology.
Prerequisite: A college-level course in biology.

PATRICK I. BROWN, Ph.D., has nearly 30 years of experience teaching human anatomy and related courses to undergraduate, postgraduate, and medical students. He has received widespread acclaim for his teaching excellence and his development of innovative educational programs in the biological sciences. As a medical school administrator, he effectively counseled hundreds of pre-health professional and graduate students. He has published widely in medical education and basic science journals. Recently, he has gained enormous insight into teaching clinical implications of basic human anatomy through his hands-on work in anatomic pathology at California Pacific Medical Center.Revised class schedule in red.
