Search Engine Marketing (SEM), a popular and ever-growing Web marketing application, is the overarching term to describe marketing a website through search engines, including single or combined efforts to improve organic listings, running pay-per-click ads, using pay-per-inclusion, and getting listed in vertical search placements. This workshop, intended for a variety of marketing professionals, teaches the basics of SEM and provides a solid foundation to intelligently and cost-efficiently apply SEM to a current or future business.

LORRIE THOMAS, B.A., brings a wealth of online sales and marketing expertise to the businesses she serves and the students she teaches. She partners with businesses as a Web-marketing strategist, consultant, and in-house trainer. Thomas also teaches Web-marketing applications and search-engine-marketing applications classes at UC Santa Barbara. She empowers clients, students, and trainees with critical tools to develop and execute Web-marketing efforts that best fit their individual business needs so websites evolve into lucrative Web solutions.
Thomas was on the founding team at ValueClick Media (NASDAQ: VCLK) and CallWave, Inc. (NASDAQ: CALL). She served as an internal Web-marketing consultant to Affinity Group Inc., an outdoor-recreation company, and as Web-marketing director at ProHealth, Inc.
Her industry expertise encompasses developing Web-marketing strategies, redesigning and optimizing websites, search-engine marketing, affiliate marketing, selling and buying online advertising and educating students and businesses on a variety of Web-marketing-related topics.
