Meets the requirement of training in child abuse and incest assessment, reporting, and treatment for licensure in California by the Board of Psychology or the Board of Behavioral SciencesThis course begins by placing child abuse and neglect within its historical and cultural context, then proceeds to a review of the requirements of California child-abuse reporting laws. You learn how to identify the signs of abuse and neglect--physical and behavioral indicators in the child, indicators in the parent, family dynamics and patterns of interaction, and environmental factors. Guidelines for assessment are also presented, and the special challenges of interviewing children are discussed.

JULIE ROBBINS, M.S.W., LCSW, has more than 28 years of experience in the field of child abuse and neglect, childhood trauma, and family violence. She served as victim services director for the Department of Public Health in San Francisco and consulted for a homeless youth program. Currently in private practice, she works with children and adult survivors of childhood abuse and trauma. She is on the adjunct faculty of Alliant International University and serves on the board of the California Professional Society on the Abuse of Children. Her most recent publication is the second edition of The Child Sexual Abuse Custody Dispute Annotated Bibliography.
