General Biology Laboratory I
X15.1A (2 semester units in Molecular and Cell Biology)
(formerly General Biology Laboratory-A)
This laboratory course introduces fundamental concepts in biology, including cell structure and function; metabolism; molecular and organismal genetics; classification; and animal development, form, and function. The class is designed for biology majors, pre-medical, and pre-health students. In addition, it is appropriate for returning students interested in a "refresher" biology class, and professionals in other disciplines considering a career change to the biological sciences. Emphasis is given to the development of laboratory skills such as instrumentation, data analysis, and observational skills. This course is associated with General Biology I (X15A).
Prerequisite: General Biology 1 (X15A) must be completed with a C- or better or taken concurrently.

YONG ZHU, M.B.A., Ph.D., has more than 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry. He has held positions in research, development, manufacturing, business development, sales and marketing. He holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the City University of New York, and an M.B.A. from Cornell University.NOTE: Enrollment in this class is restricted.

DOUGLAS BRUCE, M.S., is an instructor at the Peralta community colleges and College of Marin. He has taught general biology courses at community colleges, and ecology, genetics, and evolution at Sonoma State University. He has lived in the Sierra Nevada mountains where he studied temperature adaptation in willow leaf beetles.
