Introduction to Health Economics
X52 (2 semester units in Public Health)
This course introduces the applications of economics to healthcare and medical care issues. You discuss the special features of medical care as a commodity, demand for health services, and the economic explanations for the healthcare providers, insurance markets and technology diffusion. You also touch on policy issues, such as universal health insurance and international comparisons. The training helps you to form your own vision of the economics of healthcare as a health services manager, analyst, or civic leader.
Prerequisite: An undergraduate introductory economics course.
