The Found Object: Recycling as Art
X456 (2 semester units in Art)
Explore the possibilities of making art from used, discarded, discovered, demolished and recovered objects and materials. In this course, you create projects with found materials using a wide variety of approaches and methods including collage, assemblage, installation, video, photography, and performance. In addition, you learn about the historical and contemporary ideas behind the use of found materials in art, including social and political commentary, surrealism and the dream world, and nostalgia and memory.

SARAH BARSNESS, M.F.A., exhibits her installations, sculptures, prints, and drawings in the Bay Area and nationally. She was a 2006 artist in residence at San Francisco Recycling and Disposal. Her work was featured recently in GenArt Emerge!, the Headlands Center for the Arts, and Arts Benicia.NOTE: This class is closed.
